Sam & Max giveaway to celebrate season 2 launch

7 11 2007

Season 2 of Sam & Max is approaching rapidly. To start the party and raise the interest again in the second season, Telltale is giving the fourth episode of the first season, which seems the one amassing the best reviews overall, away for free. Like they say on the site : they slashed the price of the episode into Oblivion. Which , I’m sure, has nothing to do with the role-playing game of the same name.

The official announcement is here.

The ten most addictive online flash games on CNET

7 11 2007

CNet has a nice list of flash games, with the appropriate HR score, giving you an idea how soon playing this game will get you fired. They are limited to Flash games, so we have an edge here at Plastic Banana, but some of the games they propose are in the definitely must-have-played list of all times.

Desktop Tower Defense and Portal : the Flash game.

the CNET article can be found here.

Desktop Tower Defense

6 11 2007

If you want to do anything even remotely useful in the next 24 hours, DO NOT try the following game: Desktop Tower Defense. I’ve tried it, and even though I have room for a lot of improvement (and I mean, a LOT, I can’t even make it through the first stage on a level that allows me to post my score) I’ve wasted too many hours and too many megabytes bandwidth playing this little browsergame.

The idea, like many revolutionary games, is extremely simple. You have life points, and a certain budget which you will need to use wisely to defend yourself against the passage of numerous waves of rather dumb enemies. You know where they will be coming into the world, and you know where they will be headed. You even know what type of enemy will be next. The only thing you have to make sure is that they don’t get to the other end of the square, or you loose life points. For every enemy you destroy, you get money, which enables you to invest in upgrades or in new structures for defense.

Desktop Tower Defense is some sort of legend, really. It is rumored that the maker was able to earn 10 000$ a month using advertising, due to the popularity of the game.

Xeno Versus beta – last day

9 10 2007

Xeno Versus is a anime game based on the Torque Game Builder by GarageGames. It looks like it’s going to be a Spacewar type of game, where different avatars battle around in (or on) spaceships. Not much of the game has been revealed, but you can get a sneak view of it, when you apply for the Beta program on their site. Subscribing to theYahoo group also gives you the ability to have your say in the development of this interesting looking game.

Advergaming testing the water with free games

17 09 2007

Not so long ago, the term ‘advergaming’ was a big no-no with gaming crowds and reviewers around. The idea that you can see an ad for the latest flavor of soft-drink while doing an uber-cool Jedi Move in the latest Star Wars game had me worried a little too. Let’s be honest, gaming is for most people a way to immerse themselves in a world other than our own in most of the cases. When you put too many objects from the real world in the game, you shatter the immersiveness. Read the rest of this entry »

Command & Conquer is 12 years young

3 09 2007

EA has some festivities in store for the twelfth anniversary for Command & Conquer. Exactly 12 years after the release of the game that was rumored to be Dune3 for a long time, the jolly chaps at Electronic Arts have put the C&C Gold ISOs for free download on the net. Why C&C Gold, one could ask, and not the Really Original CD’s? Well, those only work on DOS, while the Gold version has a Windows client to run the game.
Have a download, and enjoy some good old-fashioned memories about the good old days. I’m sure I wil.
Download speed is slow, as half the world is downloading one or two of the ISO’s now. A shame EA didn’t provide a Torrent download for this kind of distributions. It surely would make the download faster for everyone.

You can get the ISO’s HERE.

Welcome to Plastic Banana!

23 08 2007

Hello dear reader, welcome to plastic banana. I like playing games (computer games and other types), and this blog will be the chronicle of my never-ending quest to find out about fun games. The focus of this blog isn’t the triple-A titles on consoles and PC (check Eurogamer, gamespot or any other computer games site for that), but rather the indie or slightly-weird ones that are much more difficult to find.

This blog used to be called Nebulous, and it used to be located on the Yahoo!360 service, but I decided to start over on the WordPress.com service as I’m more used to that platform.

Lost Garden: Fighting the Dice Wars demon

12 07 2007
I was having a look for the free graphics mentioned in this post on GarageGames and I came onto this post : Lost Garden: Fighting the Dice Wars demon .
Being the researcher :-) , I had to try a game of Dice Wars, and it is fabulous. No compicated stuff to remember, just click to attack, wait anxiously for the next round hoping nobody will crush your sorry dice and then attack again.
There is a discussion about how to make it better, and most of the ideas seem viable to me. Now let’s see if someone gets to the point he has something to show.

Travian with auto-task tool

28 12 2009

Do you know the game of Travian? If not, you are one of those lucky few that still can decide autonomously about what they will be doing, when, every day. A true Travianer, like those caught in the world of Travian are called, has a very peculiar way of passing his days.
Normally, he cannot get away from his pc longer than a few hours, as one never knows what will happen in the mean time. Some Travianer even wake up in the middle of the night, to make sure their offensive is still going the way they would like it to.
